Positivity is not about living a healthy lifestyle. It can be part of it if you choose, but it’s definitely also about indulging and enjoying the little things in life. As I said last week, life is too short not to eat cake. And with that message in mind, I’m giving you the recipe of the ultimate comfort food: slutty brownies. I initially found this recipe on The Londoner — be sure to check out her post as well, because her pictures are far tastier-looking than mine. At least I tried!
Why are they slutty, you ask? Because they’re easy and dirty. (I apologise on behalf of feminism here, but that’s the name!)
Cooking time: 45-60 minutes, including baking time
- cookie bake mix
- a packet of Oreos
- brownie bake mix
- 2-3 eggs
- Some oil
You can make the cookies and brownies from scratch, but I’m taking the easy way out here. For one, it still tastes amazing. And two, this is comfort food, and comfort food should be easy and quick to make! But by all means, go all out if you feel like it.
Step one: start pre-heating your oven to 180°C/360°F. Making the brownies will only take about 15 minutes. Then, find a baking tray and line it with baking paper, although you can go all ways with this — it’s comfort food and you shouldn’t have to care about what form it comes in, just that it tastes amazing and it’s amazingly bad for you. I used a cake tin and greased and floured it up.
Step two: make your cookie batter mix. Simply follow the instructions on the box, although it’s advisable to add about an extra teaspoon of water and oil to the mixture, because you’ll be baking it for longer than recommended. Mix until you get a gooey dough.
Step three: spread the cookie dough layer over your baking tray/cake tin/face/…
Step four: your Oreos are your middle layer of goodness, so it’s time to add these. Only use the whole ones and eat the broken ones as you go along. I used 14 of them and ate the other 2.
Step five: make your brownie batter. Just follow the instructions on the box for this one, no added ingredients needed, and whisk until you get a smooth texture. Then, pour the mixture over your cookie-dough-and-Oreo-filled goodness.
Step six: bake for 30 minutes. Take it out of the oven and let it cool a little bit. They’re the best fresh out of the oven, still a little warm, with a generous scoop of ice-cream.
And there we are! Let me know if you decide to try this out — they’re really easy and quick to make and so good. So, so good. There’s cookie mix, Oreos, brownie mix, and ice-cream, so there is absolutely no way you can go wrong here. They are, without a doubt, the ultimate comfort food.
