I wasn’t tagged by Beth @ The Quiet People, but it’s where I stole this tag from, so I’ll credit her nonetheless. The aim is to share things that bring you peace, and I thought this would be a great way to start blogging again.
This will come as no surprise, as I also run a book blog called Bookshelf Reflections. Reading gives me a chance to escape reality when I’m not feeling well or dealing with things I don’t want to deal with. I can just pick up a book and dive into a new world, meet new characters, and go on adventures. They provide the perfect distraction for when I’m feeling anxious and I don’t have to think about things for a while.
My cat has honestly helped me so much this past year. Just having her on my lap while watching TV or reading is such a comfort, especially because she’s warm and her purrs calm me down (scientifically proven!). Also she’s terribly cute and she makes me smile.
My favourite series, my favourite people, my favourite world. Hogwarts will always be a second home to me. I reread the books once a year and always grab for one of the movies when I need a bit of magic, especially through times of grief.
There’s nothing as heart-warming as a Disney movie to give you that feelgood feeling! I recently had a month-long Disney marathon and it was so much fun. I was smiling a lot more and singing all the tunes in my head.
(Spoiler: there’s a blog post about feelgood movies coming up soon!)
Walks with music
Even though I don’t always feel like going for a walk, I feel better if I do it anyway. Even if it’s just 20 minutes, getting some fresh air will do wonders for a messy brain. I also like to take my iPod along and jam to my favourite songs. There’s something infinitely empowering to lipsyncing along to a rock song!
Some may find these quotes cheesy, but they are reassuring to me. It helps to see these thoughts written down, to have them confirmed, and to repeat them in my head like a sort of mantra.
Tea is love, tea is life. Tea makes me feel warm and calm.
Where do you find your serenity?
