Once again, welcome to Of Wonderland! We are Aly and Inge and we’re your hosts on this wondrous and whimsical new book blog.
For those of you who knew us as part of the Bookshelf Reflections team, you must be wondering where the hell we’ve been for two months. Or not. But if you did, let me quickly tell you what happened.
In the month of March, Karolina
heartlessly abandoned us decided her heart was no longer in the blog. She felt like she needed to focus on her health and law school, and thus ended a two-year blogging partnership. While I completely support her decision to focus more on herself, it did come as quite a surprise to me and I felt (and still feel) really sad about our chapter ending so abruptly. Karolina also took Angie with her, which left me and Aly to fend for ourselves in a hostile and confusing world of website design and coding. Bookshelf Reflections’ hosting plan was coming to an end, so we quickly shipped everything off to my old positivity & mental health blog called Whimsicality, which still had a few years left.
Not only did Aly and I not know a single thing about running a blog behind the scenes, as this was usually Karolina’s job (remember – she was the brains, I was just there to write and look pretty), the ending of the blog also sent me into a spiral of major depression and demotivation. Not to apply a thick coat of guilt on Karolina or anything
(you should feel really, really bad), but just explaining why it took so long to get Of Wonderland up and running.
I was really glad to still have Aly by my side, who comforted me and proceeded to be really excited and enthusiastic about the new blog (which has nothing to do with the fact that we named it after her favourite book, Alice In Wonderland). So we bought a theme, started working on the new design, tried to design some stuff on our own.
It did not always go that well.
Eventually, we decided to move our launch date from May to June, so we’d have plenty of time to figure everything out and to get some blog posts scheduled. This turned out to be an incredibly smart decision of Gary, our shared brain cell, as Aly would be incredibly busy with work and I would be incredibly busy with being demotivated.
After a while, though, we kicked things into gear, and here we are. So welcome! We are the remnants of Bookshelf Reflections and this is our brand new book blog. You should expect reviews, interviews with authors, bookish discussions, personal posts, and anything else we can think of. If all goes to plan (which will probably not be the case), you should expect one post from me and one post from Aly each week. We’ll also do lots of joined posts. It should be… interesting.
We also have four events coming up!
- Readalong of Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank: June 12-19th with Ely @ Tea and Titles
- Readalong of Ivory and Bone by Julie Eshbaugh: July 1-8
- Fantasy Favourites Read-a-thon 2.0: July 10-18 with Olivia @ Olivia’s Catastrophe
- Shattering Stigmas mental health event 2.0: August with Shannon @ It Starts At Midnight and Topaz @ Six Impossible Things
So that’s where we’re at for now. We hope you like it!
