FairyLoot: A Bookish Unboxing!

Posted June 3, 2016 by Aly in Wrap-Ups & Unboxings / 17 Comments

YOU GUYS! Let me tell you a story. Once upon a time, a young, starry-eyed Aly scrolled through Google, looking at all the bookish subscription boxes she desperately wanted. They all looked amazing, with a hardback, mystery book and a bunch of other goodies. Not only did they look amazing, but they also looked really fun to open, and everyone knows there is nothing Aly loves more than layers. And the subscription boxes definitely have layers upon layers of awesomeness to get through.

But there was a sadness to the scrolling and bookmarking and wistfully-sighing: most boxes were shipped from America, and therefore the shipping was far too much for Aly’s wee pockets.

And so Aly bookmarked and scrolled through Instagram, and wished and wished and wished upon a star, until finally, one day, her wish came true. A bookish subscription box launched in the UK, and the best part? It’s all about fantasy. Everyone knows fantasy makes Aly’s heart jump with joy. FairyLoot is an awesome box, guys, and the shipping is so cheap and affordable. I’ve already bought two more boxes and can’t wait to buy more!

FairyLoot is run by the awesome Anissa, and it’s such a great box, guys. It also helps that Anissa is super fun to talk with and we love loads of the same things. I HAVE FOUND MY BOOKISH TWIN AND SHE IS GREAT.

The first box that launched was the March box, “Fairytale Retelling” and it lived up to the incredibly high expectations. The box contained a book and some amazing, amazing book-related goodies. I swear, this box was designed for me. You’ll see why.

The first thing you see when you open the box is purple. PURPLE EVERYWHERE AND IT IS GLORIOUS. The introduction sheet (is that what it’s called?) is full of spoilers but it’s a pretty snazzy sheet that tells you how and why everything in the box was picked, and the thoughtfulness that went into the March box is truly outstanding.

  • Item #1

A Shadowhunter candle made by the wonderful people over at MurrayMayDesigns. Covered in gorgeous runes, it was created exclusively for the FairyLoot box, and it smells AMAZING. Is it supposed to have a scent? WHO KNOWS, BUT IT SMELLS GREAT.

  • Item #2

The second item was this BEAUTIFUL Alice in Wonderland inspired necklace by the lovely Racheal Dean over at BunnyBeadsUK. It displays a popular quote, “We’re All Mad Here” and it is probably the most gorgeous piece of jewellery I own. Do you see why this box was designed for me? DO YOU SEE NOW? My preciousssssss.

  • Item #3

A gorgeous set of bookmarks from the Throne of Glass series, showcasing my favourite characters EVER (from left to right: Dorian, Chaol, Celaena, Rowan) and oh my God, they are so cute, aren’t they? DO YOU SEE WHY THIS BOX WAS DESIGNED FOR ME? I squeed so hard I lost my voice for a week. SO GORGEOUS. SO UTTERLY PERFECT. These were designed by TheStickerAlley and they have some truly fabulous stickers and bookmarks in their shop!

  • Item #4

A beautifully designed star constellation notebook by NewtonAndTheApple. It’s a truly stunning journal with soft, creamy pages. I keep it in the plastic wrap it came in to save it from every day wear-and-tear, because it’s too pretty to waste it!

  • Item #5

A bookish button that says “Reading Addict” which I believe perfectly describes me as a human being. I have it pinned to my favourite jacket and wear it proudly wherever I go! This was designed by ButtonNook and I believe every box had a different design. How awesome is that?

  • And for the final item…

The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury, with a bookmark and signed bookplate! I already stuck my bookplate in the actual book, but I’m so, so, so excited to read it! Inge has already read it and told me I’ll love it, and she’s always right when it comes to me, so I can’t wait to binge-read it in June. Also, that cover? *heart-eye emoji times infinity*

The other really cool part of FairyLoot is that each person is assigned a “book buddy” with whom they can join up and read the book of the month. Your book buddy can be found on Twitter on Instagram, using the hashtag given to you in the box. For March, mine was #fairylootwitch, but unfortunately I haven’t found my buddy yet. So if you’re also #fairylootwitch, let me know! It’ll be awesome to meet you!

Thank you for your lovely comment!

FairyLoot is the only subscription box I’ve ever bought and, dare I say, the only one I might ever end up buying. It’s definitely worth the money, and the content of each box has blown my mind. So much dedication and love goes into making them up. I hope you get to experience it yourself one day!

  1. I live in the United States so I’m subscribing to Uppercase Box and OwlCrate, and I am in love with these two boxes. I spent some money for the FairyLoot’s July box because it sounds amazing!

  2. I keep seeing FairyLoot on Instagram and all over the internet and I want one soooo badly but unfortunately I live in Slovakia and the shipping is quite expensive so I’m just watching others from my sad corner. 😀 But honestly what I’ve seen so far this is one of my favourite subscribtion boxes and one day, ONE DAY, I will have one 😀

The wait will be 100% worth it! I hope you love your box, whenever you get it! (It probably helps that all the items are always so photogenic. It’s taken Instagram by storm!)

OH SO MUCH PRETTY. I honestly haven’t ever felt the wish to get a subscription box.? I think the YA Chronicles functions out of Australia? BUT I DON’T EVEN KNOW. I DON’T LIKE SURPRISES.? But stiiiiill. All this stuff is so endlessly cool, particularly that Alice in Wonderland necklace. AND THE NOTEBOOK. AH! AND THE BOOK. OF COURSE! AHH!! Congrats on finding such an awesome subscription box, Aly. 😀

I have to give all the credit to Inge, and the fact that she almost bullied me into buying it, hahaha! But I haven’t looked back since, and have just ordered the July one, too! It also helps that Anissa is truly lovely.

I still like to believe the March box was created just for me, because it has EVERYTHING I love in it. All the squeeing happened upon opening it! You should definitely try it one day. 🙂

  4. Ah, how absolutely gorgeous! I have been hearing so many lovely things about Fairy Loot (and also, I will just put this out there: the title is probably my favourite of all time <3 ). Alas, I live in the faraway land of Singapore, so shipping is a bit much for me… but I shall hold out hope! One of these days I will get my hands on a box, I'm sure of it. 😉 xx

I hope you do decide to get it one day! FairyLoot is perfect for me because shipping is so cheap… but I do live in the UK, so that helps, hahaha. A box is definitely worth the purchase — I have loved every single one. 🙂 Thanks so much for your kind comment! xx

I LOVE THIS BOX. I don’t live in the UK anymore, but I am hoping to move there once I am done with my final year of secondary school next year. For university and the stuffs. So I would definitely be signing up to this one 😀 It sounds wonderful and I really love the looks of the Shadowhunter necklace and the book choice too. Way too many cool items for me to comprehend coming in one neat little package.

Oh, and I also tagged you BOTH in this writing tag :3 http://olivia-savannah.blogspot.nl/2016/06/behind-scenes-blog-tag.html

  6. I don’t care about subscription boxes, but after reading your post I immediately went to their site to check prices and order the July one (wow, I seem to be very pliable to ads haha) AND IT WAS SOLD OUT. I am hoping even more that I’ll win the box now. 😀 EVERYTHING INSIDE IS SO PRETTY I LOVE IT.

    • Yeah I know, the July box was sold out within a few hours, it was crazy! Normally you do have a few weeks before it sells out, but… pirates.
