The Of Wonderland Book Club: February 2017 + GIVEAWAYS!

Posted February 1, 2017 by Inge in #OWBookClub, Features / 16 Comments

How did you like the first month of our book club? It’s honestly been so much fun for us. We were really excited about this feature and feel really humbled about all the comments and feedback we’ve gotten. Our Goodreads group is running beautifully, with lots of enthusiastic readers and interesting discussions. And how much fun was our very first Twitter chat? We honestly can’t thank you enough.

So the first month’s theme was FANTASY, and I think our TBR shelves pretty much doubled with some of the awesome titles everyone has read! While I devoured Rebel of the SandsThe Bone Witch, and Last Stand, Aly has been focussing on The Sleeping Prince and The Witcher series. I mean, since we both mainly read fantasy, this was a pretty easy one for us, but it was great!

That brings us to our second month, with a brand new theme! We had you vote for our next theme, and we ended the poll with 104 votes! You guys are so cool.

With a whopping total of 43%, the honour of February’s theme goes to…

I’m fairly sure you guys couldn’t have picked a better theme, especially with all the stuff that’s been going on. You can go all ways with this theme – from swashbuckling, dagger-throwing chicks to non-fiction to girls who start a feminist club. It’s really just about women you admire, don’t think too much about it. If you think it belongs in this theme, it probably does.

The Goodreads group has a whole thread dedicated to girl power recommendations. Here are some of ours…

Girl Up // Am I Normal Yet? // Illuminae // First Year // Cinder
Divergent // The Young Elites // Truthwitch // Six of Crows // And I Darken

I know I am reading What’s A Girl Gotta Do? and Truthwitch!

To celebrate our new theme, we have some giveaways for you!

  • I am giving away several ebook copies of First Year this week. Make sure you follow my Twitter account, as I will be sending out tweets every now and then. They go out on first come, first serve! There is also a Goodreads group exclusive — talk to me about the books you’ll be reading for this month’s theme, and you’ll be automatically entered.
  • Here on the blog, I am also giving away two ebook copies of Am I Normal YetSimply fill in the Rafflecopter form below. If you’ve already read the first book in the Spinster Club series, I’ll get you the next unread book.

And last but not least, our poll for March’s category! Since fairytale retellings became such a close second in the last poll, we decided to add it to March’s poll again to give it a second chance. Vote, vote, vote!

Happy reading! What are you reading this month?

  1. I had a lot of fun in the first month! I managed to read 2 books (Miss Mayhem and The House of Hades) and I still need to decide on what to read for February. I just started The Blood of Olympus and because they have a lot of female badasses, I’m already going to count that as my first book ;))

  2. Woooooooooah.. I still have to pick up the book of this month but I am voting for March’s theme. I voted for contemporary because they are my favorite and I definitely have a wide choice on my TBR.

    • I always love a good contemporary as well. By the looks of things, contemporary will come in second, so I’ll add it to next month’s poll again! 🙂

    • Happy reading, Ellie! I’m so glad you’re enjoying our book club. I’m experiencing a bit of book overwhelm, so need to finish a few books before I start Truthwitch. JUST A FEW MORE DAYS.

  3. I just entered the giveaway for Am I normal yet and the tweet for the giveaway is one letter too long 🙂 (I adjusted it ‘is’ instead of ‘are’ 🙂 )
I had a lot of fun reading the fantasy books in January. I actually discovered a new series, The Black Mage series, which I’m going to continue reading for this month since it has some badass females 🙂

    • Whoops, sorry! It didn’t give any issues when I created the Rafflecopter form. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the Black Mage series, it’s such an amazing set of books. ♥

  4. I didn’t participate in January (but pretty much everything I read is fantasy soooo … there’s that). But totally excited for February’s theme! I voted for retellings for March 🙂 I’ve got so many of those in my TBR it might help to have an excuse to get to them, lol!

    • Looking at the current stats for the poll, I think you’re in luck! But you’re right, almost everything we read is fantasy, so it was an easy pick. 😀

    • I hope you love Am I Normal Yet? it’s really one of my favourite reads. But I’m biased because it has good mental health representation. 😉 I’m so glad you loved The Bone Witch! I ended up feeling a bit underwhelmed by it, but the concept was really cool and the descriptions were beautiful.

  5. I really need to read Blood of Olympus to finally finished the series, plus Annabeth is like the most kick-butt female I have ever read about! I also just finished reading The Girl from Everywhere, and I totally think that Nix counts as a kick-butt girl. Sure, she doesn’t like to fight, but she was not afraid to stand up for herself and those she loved. I cannot wait to read more books for the theme this month!

    • I haven’t read The Girl From Everywhere, but from what you’re telling me, she totally counts as kicking butt. No need to kick literal butts! And yes, Rick Riordan definitely counts. I mean, it’s Annabeth. She’s like the queen of kicking butt. I’ll be reading the House of Hades soon!
