25 Things I’ve Learned In 25 Years + Birthday GIVEAWAY!

Posted August 7, 2017 by Inge in Features, Mad Talk // Personal / 9 Comments

As you may know, I had my birthday in July, and I turned 25. So before any of you want to get in here with jokes about how old I am, let me just get this out of the way:

YES I AM A QUARTER OF A CENTURY OLD HAHAHAHA LET’S ALL LAUGH HEARTILY AT HOW OLD I AM. (Seriously though, how fun was Freaky Friday? I bet they had a great time filming that.)

Now that we have established my oldness, I would like to share with you a list of things I’ve learned over the years. Some of them are random, some of them are funny, and some of them are genuinely helpful. I hope you like them.

  1. Kindness will get you further in life, with yourself and with others.
  2. “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.” – Albus Dumbledore
  3. No one really knows what they’re doing. Some people are just better at pretending.
  4. Drink plenty of water.
  5. “When in doubt, go for the dick joke.” – Robin Williams
  6. If life is a roller coaster, adulthood is that part when you’re hanging over the edge and you’re filled with anxiety and dread.
  7. There will always be bad days, and that’s okay.
  8. Cows have best friends.
  9. “Whatever makes you weird is probably your greatest asset.” – Joss Whedon
  10. When all else fails, a sense of humour will keep you going.
  11. Wearing cotton is much better than wearing polyester.
  12. We could all learn a thing or two from sloths.
  13. “It does not matter how slowly you go, as long as you do not stop.” – Confucius
  14. Escape from reality is just a book away.
  15. You’re never too old for Disney.
  16. Dogs are too good for this world and we don’t deserve them.
  17. “You can fail at what you don’t want, so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love.” – Jim Carrey
  18. A good night’s sleep is a heavenly thing.
  19. Think of three good things that happened to you every day.
  20. Put your phone down a little more often.
  21. “Comparison is the thief of joy.” – Theodore Roosevelt
  22. Whenever you feel sad, just think about how delighted Arthur Weasley would be to meet you.
  23. When you have an idea at night, for the love of everything that is holy, WRITE IT DOWN. You will not remember it in the morning.
  24. Take care of yourself first.
  25. “If you liked being a teenager, there’s something really wrong with you.” – Stephen King

So yes, 25 things I have learned in 25 years. Do you agree with these – have you learned them on your road as well?

Honestly, though, 25 is supposed to be such an “adult” age, but I don’t feel like an adult at all. I will definitely keep looking for higher-level adults if there’s any adulting to be done. But to celebrate my years on this planet, I’ve decided to host a giveaway! I’m giving away a book of choice up to $15 to two winners, and this is international as long as The Book Depository ships to you. Good luck!

  1. I love all your quotes! And I think Stephen King would say there’s something seriously wrong with me because being a teenager didn’t bother me all too much :0

I turned 21 last month and I keep forgetting about it. I’m still telling everybody I’m 20 until I realize my mistake 😛 Do you still do that too?

    Great list! :))

  2. I love your list! You have a lot of great advice in there. Number 22 actually made me laugh out loud. ? I’ve definitely learned to embrace my weirdness more over the years and to accept that I’m an introvert. Pretending otherwise isn’t worth it!
Thanks for the giveaway, Inge. ?

HAPPPPPY BIRTHDAY, INGE!! You lovely marvellous thing!! And I loved your list (and all the quotes there too!!….except I kind of did like being a teen so yes. Definitely something wrong with me) and there’s such good advice on there. ❤️Dogs are too pure too precious though. If I get upset and lie on my bed, there is like 1000% chance my dog will come sit on my face. I mean, he’s probably trying to kill me so I stop being annoying BUT I APPRECIATE THE FLOOF HUG. And water is fabulous. I like water. Also #22 made me laugh! And #24 = so so much truth.

I hope you have had a truly lovely day!!

  4. When you have an idea at night, for the love of everything that is holy, WRITE IT DOWN. You will not remember it in the morning. <– Truth. I had this happen to me AGAIN last week for a blog post. You'd think I'd learn but I never do.

Happy birthday again. Great list of things.

  5. HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, WONDERFUL INGE!!! <3 I hope your day was utterly incredible!

I love this list. Dogs are so precious, a good night's sleep is the best, Disney is forever and YAS TO ALL THE WATER.

I turned 18 this year so I'm "officially" an adult but I feel a lot younger than that a lot of the time! I've been volunteering at the library this summer and all the parents are like "go give the pen to that lady…ask the lady your question" and I'm like "holy flip they're talking about me…I'm not a girl anymore, I'm a lady" and then I have to try to conceal my existential crisis. XD I can imagine at the age of 25 I'll also be looking at higher-level adults (THAT'S SUCH A GOOD WAY OF PUTTING IT) for a lot of things!

  6. HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!! I don’t know if this’ll make you feel better but I’m older than you! I guess we were both the same age for a week or so – and now I’m the old one again.

“Whenever you feel sad, just think about how delighted Arthur Weasley would be to meet you” is going to be my new motto. I love it.
Also, *whispers* I didn’t feel like an adult at 25 either.

I hope you got piles and piles of books and bookish things for your birthday!

Jokes about how old you are? I’m 25 too, but I’ll be 26 in a few months *crawls into a hole* ahahaha And I swear, I felt pretty bad too when I realized that I was a quarter of a century old. The CENTURY word, my God! Anyway, I hope you had a lovely birthday, Inge! We’re incredibly young, and we have the entire life in front of us. Be happy and enjoy! ♥ ♥
I had so much fun reading this list of life lessons! I agree with most of them, mainly because I’ve learnt them too. There are others that I’m making my way through, like taking care of myself first and drinking plenty of water – though I can’t even drink a glass of it, so I have a real problem here. In my case, something I’ve learnt over the years was that we don’t have to have it all figured out. I grew up thinking adults have their stuff put together all the time, perfect lives and everything in place. But the thing now is… We don’t even feel like adults! ahaha But well, everything will always be okay… Now, or eventually 🙂

  8. I love your list! I think my favorite is cows have best friends haha is that actually a thing?? Because if so, I learned something new. Also, I feel you about getting older. I’m 24 next week and my university life will be over in a few weeks… I guess it always felt like I was an adult but also not? 😀 So… guess I have to actually start adulting now. *shocked emoji*
